José Pablo (JP) Duque has over 20 years of professional experience in operating and scaling medium sized companies, venture capital, angel investing, private equity and investment banking. He has led and participated in transactions (investments, mergers, joint ventures and divestitures) ranging anywhere from US$25 thousand to US$1.5 billion across several sectors and geographies. Prior to his role as Founder and Managing Partner at Cantera Capital, JP has worked in many roles – as an angel investor building a diversified startup portfolio (fintech, logistics, pharma, digital marketing, ecommerce, business services) with investments in three countries; as a Vice President of M&A with Deutsche Bank in London and in Mexico City; as a Vice President of Zephyr Management, a US private equity firm with a strong focus on emerging markets; as an Executive Committee and Board member of Laboratorios Kener, a mid-sized Mexican pharmaceutical manufacturer; among others. JP has accumulated a broad analytical and pragmatical skillset that enables him to be an asset to founders, investors and the VC ecosystem at large.
JP is an MBA from NYU Stern (merit scholarship, VP Latin American Business Association, VP Graduate Finance Association, Global Alumni Council (2009-2011)) and a Bachelor of Business from ITAM (co-founder of the Finance Association). He has completed Private Equity and Venture Capital programs at Harvard Business School and at Stanford University. JP is happily married and a father to three wonderful children, a French bulldog and a turtle. He suffers from wanderlust and an inexplicable interest in driving classic cars at unsafe speeds – he hopes to win the Carrera Panamericana before internal combustion engines are outlawed.
